Special Assignments undertaken

Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Study Hambantota District Sri Lanka Nov/Dec. 1986	Engaged in a field study on inland fisheries resources in Hambantota District and made recommendations on the future inland fishery development in the District to NORAD. Served as a member of a 4 member Team commissioned under the Integrated Development Project of NORAD.
Senior Program Officer, Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia FAO/UNDP, Bangkok Nov. 1988 - Dec. 1989	Served as a regional expert in the NACA organization. Extensively involved in organization of international training programs, organization of workshops, organization of study tours, coordination with other agencies and Departments in arranging the study tours. And editing of research papers. Assisted in arrangements for the Governing Council Meetings of NACA. Prepared summary reports on aquaculture/inland fisheries and assisted in routing administration matters.
Served as Project Director of the Sri Lanka Aquaculture Development Project funded by the ADB from 1986 Jan. 1 - Aug. 1	Supervised the projects implementation until the termination of project in 1991.Wide experience was gained during this period on the initiation of activities of a large foreign funded project and execution of various project components. Commenced infrastructure development for seed production, procured equipment, developed methodologies for development of small village tanks for fish production, initiated preliminary work for planning of National Inland Fisheries Development Centre. Initiated construction of a Shrimp Hatchery Complex with a production capacity of 20 million PL annually under a turn-key project. Organized training programs for extension workers and developed a scheme for project benefit monitoring & evaluation for the Aquaculture Development Project funded by the ADB. Wide experience was gained in identifying constraints in the implementation of larger project and remedial measures that should be taken. Initial programming and implementation of project activities. Special experience was also gained on the procurement of equipment under international procedures.
